Pet Friendly Activities

The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is home to over 800 miles of hiking trails and is the country's most popular National Park. Dogs are welcome in the campgrounds, picnic areas & along roads, but your pet must be kept on a leash at all times. But don't forget... pets should be well-behaved and you should always clean up after them.

Dogs are not allowed on most of the park's extensive trails but are welcome on the Gatlinburg Trail.  The Gatlinburg Trail travels 1.9 miles one-way from the Sugarlands Visitor Center to the outskirts of the city of Gatlinburg, TN. It is relatively flat and runs through the forest along side the West Prong of the Little Pigeon River. The trail offers beautiful views of the river, which at one point is crossed by a pedestrian foot bridge. Foundations and chimneys of several old homesites are visible along the trail. The Oconaluftee River Trail is the second walking path on which visitors can walk dogs and bicycle.

The Village is a collection of 27 unique specialty stores in the heart of Gatlinburg.  Located next to the famous Pancake Pantry and Ole Smoky Candy Kitchen, the wooded outdoor areas around the shops are great for taking your pet for a a tour of the sites. Outdoor dining table offer a chance for you to dine with your four-legged friend.  And be sure to stop in many of the stores for a treat for your pet. Dogs should remain leashed and under your control at all times while roaming through The Village.

Planning to visit Dollywood?  Even though this theme park doesn't allow pets, they wouldn't dream of having you leave your pet at home.  Book a cottage for your pet at Doggywood.
